Digital Transformation and the Social Sciences and Humanities

AIMS AND MISSION

The main goal of the center is to respond to the growing need for interdisciplinary research to understand and shape digital transformations in our society from a Social Sciences and Humanities point of view. Its objective is to identify and illuminate complicated and unexpected aspects of society’s digital transformation as well as prospects and methods of formative intervention in the context of pedagogical, social and ethical values. Digital transformation is yielding new ways of expression, communication and organization emergent in a complex web of collectives. New semiotic systems are being made available for the first time and new ways of documenting and understanding individual and social behavior are being developed. New issues concerning social but also environmental sustainability are arising. The Digital Transformation is also about new kinds of human-machine interaction, new potentials for humans-as-designers . It is a wicked problem, in its complexity, its dynamic and elusive nature, it's largely unpredictable consequences and can only be addressed by integrating the Sciences and the Humanities, melding normal and post-normal scientific approaches.
